MCA COURSE OUTLINE
Security Training and SIA Licence Pathways
Understand the training routes for security guarding, door supervision and public space surveillance (CCTV).
Before you book
MCA must confirm the available route, approved delivery arrangements, awarding organisation and accepted licence-linked qualification in writing before enrolment. This page is a pathway outline and does not claim SIA approval of MCA. Awareness or CPD training alone does not meet licence-linked qualification requirements.
Security guarding
- Working in the private security industry: professional responsibilities, law, communication and emergency procedures.
- Security officer practice: patrols, access control, incident reporting, searching and personal safety.
- Conflict management and support for people in vulnerable situations.
Door supervision
- Working in the private security industry and the responsibilities of a door supervisor.
- Entry management, searching, conflict management, incident response and vulnerability awareness.
- Role-specific physical intervention skills, taught and assessed in person through an approved route.
Public space surveillance (CCTV)
- Professional responsibilities and lawful operation of surveillance systems.
- Monitor activity, recognise incidents, communicate and produce accurate records.
- Handle images and evidence securely and use equipment within authorised procedures.
Entry and first aid
MCA checks identity, English language ability and course eligibility. For door supervision and security guarding, an accepted Emergency First Aid at Work qualification or equivalent is required before licence-linked training; the certificate must have at least 12 months remaining validity. SIA licensing has separate eligibility checks, including age and suitability.
Training time and assessment
Current SIA published minimum schedules with permitted self-study are: security guarding 30 hours over 4 days; door supervision 44 hours over 6 days; CCTV 22 hours over 3 days. Without self-study they are 38 hours over 5 days, 52 hours over 7 days and 30 hours over 4 days respectively. First aid time is additional. The approved route determines examinations and practical assessments; MCA confirms the timetable before booking.
Renewals and progression
Renewing security guard and door supervisor licences requires the applicable refresher qualification. Ask MCA to check your existing qualification and renewal route. Completing training does not itself issue an SIA licence; you apply separately and the SIA makes the decision.
Completion information
Before payment, request the exact qualification title and number, awarding organisation, assessment method, venue, total fee and any separate first aid or licence application costs.
Delivery, dates and fees
Tutor-led online or blended delivery is agreed for the selected topic and audience. Duration, dates, delivery location, fees and completion arrangements are confirmed in writing before booking. Practical skills require appropriate supervised assessment.
