MCA COURSE OUTLINE

Safeguarding Children and Adults

Role-focused safeguarding CPD for care, residential childcare and education teams.

Audience and entry

For practitioners, managers and staff who work with children, young people or adults. No formal academic qualification is required for introductory study. MCA agrees the audience and level before booking; this CPD outline does not confer a regulated qualification or designated safeguarding role.

Children and young people: learning outcomes

  • Recognise possible abuse, neglect, exploitation, online harm and unsafe professional boundaries.
  • Respond appropriately to a disclosure, listen without leading questions and record factual information.
  • Follow local reporting, escalation and allegation procedures, including concerns about staff conduct.
  • Understand child-centred practice, the child’s voice, professional curiosity and multi-agency working.

Adults: learning outcomes

  • Identify abuse, neglect, self-neglect and organisational concerns in adult care.
  • Recognise the role of consent, mental capacity, advocacy and person-centred safeguarding.
  • Record and share concerns appropriately through the employer and local safeguarding arrangements.
  • Use supervision and whistleblowing routes to challenge unsafe practice.

Learning activities and assessment

Tutor explanations, realistic case studies, reporting scenarios and a knowledge check. Learners prepare a short action plan showing how to apply the learning in their own setting. Employers remain responsible for checking competence and role-specific training needs.

Course content and current guidance

Children’s training is planned with reference to Working Together to Safeguard Children 2026 and local safeguarding arrangements. Adult content is contextualised to adult safeguarding practice. The course helps staff use their own policies; it does not replace an emergency response or a referral to the appropriate authority.

Completion and progression

The booking information states whether a record of attendance or CPD completion is included and the requirements for receiving it. Discuss refresher learning or a tailored managers’ session with MCA.

Delivery, dates and fees

Tutor-led online or blended delivery is agreed for the selected topic and audience. Duration, dates, delivery location, fees and completion arrangements are confirmed in writing before booking. Practical skills require appropriate supervised assessment.
